New York Handyman License Requirements
New York has no statewide general contractor license for this work, so local and trade rules decide.
No state license threshold. Statewide contract rule: consumers must receive a written contract for home-improvement work that EXCEEDS $500 (AG wording 'exceeds $500'). Required contents include the 3-business-day cancellation notice and escrow/bond of deposits. Local license thresholds (for example NYC DCWP) vary and are not covered here.
What counts toward it: other: no state license, so there is no state licensing threshold. The state's $500 figure is a written-contract requirement (GBL Art. 36-A), not a licensing threshold.
