Indiana Handyman License Requirements

Indiana has no statewide general contractor license for this work, so local and trade rules decide.

No statewide general license
Indiana

No license threshold. A real property (home) improvement contract is one whose contract price 'exceeds one hundred fifty dollars ($150)'. Contracts above $150 must be in writing (AG: 'Indiana law requires home improvement contracts exceeding $150 to be in writing'). At exactly $150 or below, the writing rule does not apply.

What counts toward it: other: no licensing threshold. IC 24-5-11 written-contract rule applies when the contract price exceeds $150.

"Check with your city or county building department to determine the licensing requirements for your area and if the contractor you are considering is properly licensed, bonded and insured. Get a written contract. Indiana law requires home improvement contracts exceeding $150 to be in writing."
