Nebraska's figure is $5,000 in yearly earnings. The exact wording below decides whether you fit.

$5,000 a year
Nebraska earnings figure

Stat. 48-2104(1): 'any person who earns less than five thousand dollars annually for construction services is not a contractor' - i.e., under $5,000 per year (not 'at or below'); anyone earning $5,000 or more per year must register before performing any construction work. Persons working on their own property are also excluded.

What counts toward it: other: annual earnings from construction services (not a per-job value)

Does Nebraska license general and residential work?

Nebraska does not license general/residential contractors by competency, but the Contractor Registration Act requires every contractor/subcontractor working on real property other than their own to register with the Nebraska Department of Labor (registration, not a license).

Registration

Annual Contractor Registration with NDOL (separate number for each business name). Fee: statute 48-2107 'a fee not to exceed forty dollars' (amended by Laws 2026, LB847, effective July 18, 2026); NDOL states the annual fee increases to $40.00 effective August 1, 2026. Contractors with one or more employees must file a current workers' compensation certificate (ACORD 25) naming NDOL as certificate holder; expired coverage removes the contractor from the registered list. No bond or liability-insurance requirement found in the Act.
