Maine Handyman License Requirements
Maine has no statewide general contractor license for this work, so local and trade rules decide.
No license threshold. 10 MRSA §1487: 'Any home construction contract for more than $3,000 in materials or labor must be in writing and must be signed by both the home construction contractor and the homeowner or lessee.' (strictly more than $3,000; down payment capped at 1/3 of price).
What counts toward it: other: no licensing threshold. Written-contract requirement applies to home construction contracts 'for more than $3,000 in materials or labor'.
"For all home construction and improvement projects over $3,000 in value, Maine law requires a written contract with specific provisions."
