West Virginia Handyman License Requirements
West Virginia's small-job figure is $5,000. The exact wording below decides whether a job fits.
W. Va. Code 30-42-3(d): 'Contractor' covers work 'where the cost of the undertaking is $5,000 or more for residential work or $25,000 or more for commercial work.' So residential jobs UNDER $5,000 need no contractor license; $5,000 or more requires a license (licence also required to submit a bid). 'Contractor' excludes persons performing 'landscaping or painting services' (any amount), mere material suppliers, and owners/lessees doing their own work. 30-42-6(c) further exempts sale/installation of finished products not becoming a permanent fixed part of the structure, emergency equipment repair contracted by the equipment owner, and owner/occupant work.
"including the erection of scaffolding or other structures or works in connection therewith, where the cost of the undertaking is $5,000 or more for residential work or $25,000 or more for commercial work."
