This is a good overview of what skills you'll need to be successful as a professional Handyman.
2-1 Securing Your Business Name
How To Choose And Reserve Your Business Name. This step will require that you choose your name, reserve your name across all social media platforms, reserve your name with your state, and purchase your domain to host your website. You'll also want to go ahead and get email hosting set up so that you can start building this business with proper email addresses that point back to your domain. I recommend Wix, which is where I built this site, for web hosting due to their AI helper and ease of editing, so easy even a handyman can do it. Here is a link to Wix to get you started.
2-2 Form An Easy LLC Immediately
The next step is going to be to form your LLC, which is your legal entity. As soon as you are financially on the path to exceeding $50,000 per year of income you'll want to submit a form to file as an S-Corp to save thousands on self employment taxes every year. Once you get your LLC formed, you'll be able to get your business checking account set up, get the checking account funded, and from here on out every transaction you make will be made through the business checking account. Do not mix your business spending with your personal spending. This is what keeps your personal assets safe if there is an issue with the business in the future. I recommend starting your LLC with Northwest Registered Agent. They only charge $40 and they take care of everything for you. Other sites claim to be free but they nickel and dime you before you finally get your LLC. Here is a link to Northwest registered agent to start your LLC.
2-3 How To Proceed With Your LLC
A brief summary of how to proceed from here. You're now an LLC, with a business checking account. Everything you do to start your business will now be done by your LLC instead of by you. Every penny you spend that is attributable to your business formation process will go through your business checking account.
3-1 Create Your Branding Kit
One of the many things you need to do before diving in will be to get your branding solidified. Try to get a good brand package together that you'll be using for creating marketing materials, social media, etc...
3-2 Acquire The Necessary Tools
This video covers every single tool you should need to get started, and then some. Of course you will end up buying more over time, but this list is comprehensive. You can download the spreadsheet here.
3-3 Choose And Acquire A Vehicle
Which one? Personally, I think that a Van is the right tool for the job.
3-4 Finalize Pricing And Business Model
The goal in this step is to finalize your business model and pricing. This will help you to pinpoint your client base. To finalize your pricing I highly recommend that you go to my YouTube channel and watch any or all of my many pricing videos.

Our websites are the face of our business. This video takes you through the process of building your own and embedding your request form from Jobber using Wix. They have amazing AI integration and the most user friendly interface I've seen on any website building platform.

4-1 Acquire Your Business Licenses
Your first step now is going to be to get your business licenses. Unfortunately every State, County, City, and Municipality operate differently. I can't tell you exactly how to get yours, but Google usually does a great job of taking you to the right resources. Check with your licensing agency to find out if it's going to be in your name or in the name of the LLC. They're usually very easy and affordable to purchase online.
4-2 Acquire Business Insurance
Now this one is really mandatory. No serious business owner can be taken seriously without insurance. It's relatively cheap ($50 - $150 per month) and will be required for any client to take you seriously. I have been insured with Next Insurance for almost 4 years now and recently upgraded to a Business Owners Policy which also covers workmanship and tools and equipment. 4-3 Acquire B2B Clients
Your best bet for a bulletproof supply of work is going to be property managers of single family homes. This lesson will teach you a foolproof way to get them to sign you on as a vendor. Check out my channel for lots more info on this and for more information on getting clients in general.
